Corfu, Greece. Fun in the Sun

ATP on her bed in our cabin on the Crown Princess

While we slept in our comfortable cabin, we sailed to Corfu, Greece.  Corfu is located just of the west coast of Greece.  It has a mild climate and excellent beaches.
We met Sheila & Alvin for breakfast then we were off to catch a bus.  ATP & I wanted to go to the beach and A&S wanted to do some hiking.  Luckily, we had a designation in mind that would satisfy us both.  We had read that Paleokastritsa was one of the nicest beaches and that there was a trail that lead up a hill above the beach to a Monastery.  Two of us were head to the beach, the other two for the hike!

A&S found a beautiful view looking down over Paleokastritsa Beach and we found the beach!

A&S have this lovely picture siting on top of the rocks up by the Monastery.

ATP & I on the other hand, have this shot of us being lazy bums on the beach.  LOL  The water was beautiful, the sun warm and the beach was not crowded.  I took my snorkel & mask and did a little snorkeling around the lovely little bay, then fell asleep on the comfy beach chair.

As I have mentioned before in this blog, if you are going to spend the day out and about away from the ship, pack yourself a lunch or even just snacks off the buffet and take it with you.  All you need is a small insulated lunch bag and some ziplocks.  We took a couple of sandwiches, snacks, our Britta water bottles full, sunscreen, hats and towels.  I had a collapsable bag (kind of like the kind you buy at the grocery store these days) that fit everything.  It is always handy to have a medium size bag that folds small in to your luggage that you can leave behind when done with.  It comes in very handy on day trips off the ship.

After the morning of us being lazy and enjoying the beach, A&S came on down from their hike to the monastery and collected us up from the beach to go exploring the town and possibly a little snack before heading back to the ship.

Picture to the right, the nice couple looking very touristy in front of the Monastery

Yet it doesn't take much for them to loosen up and jump in the water when the come to the end of the hike.

One thing that we did not do, is go out on the water.  I really tired to get enough interest from other cruisers to rent a boat for ourselves and get out on the water for some snorkeling.  However  many of the folks we had met on the cruise were going to stay in town or on the ship for the day.  I don't know why that is but we wanted to get out and see some of the island.  We discovered that bus transportation on Corfu was very easy to manage and that we could get to one of the best beaches, so we went!  Behind A&S in the above picture you will see a line of boats.  Those are water taxis and tour boats that will take you out to some of the other bays in the area.

Amazing plate of food
Touring
We took the bus back into Corfu Town to do a little site seeing.  We did a little walking around, a little site seeing, then a snack before heading back to the ship.
Baked Feta Cheese & Honey

Our nice little snack restaurant

Then it was back to the ship to enjoy the pool & Jacuzzi before getting ready for dinner.

Overall a lovely, relaxing day in Corfu.  You need days like this so you are not just running the whole time.  Corfu is a good place to slow it down and enjoy the beauty of the Island.

Go Here:       Paleokastritsia Beach
Eat this:       Baked Feta cheese!
Don't miss:  Being in or around the water, too many people just stay in Corfu town.  Get out and be adventurous!  The bus system is very easy.  Enjoy the whole island, not just the small old town.

Until tomorrow,
Travel Safe!
